What Controlled Tree Removal Actually Looks Like

A lot of homeowners call us after watching a video online and realizing the job is bigger than they thought. Tree removal is not just cutting something down. With our experience we will utilize a bucket truck, crane, or climbing.

When we show up for a removal, the first thing we do is walk the whole job. We look at the lean, the root system, the condition of the wood, and what is within fall distance. We check for power lines, buried utilities, and anything else that changes the approach. Then we decide whether we are doing a straight fell, a climbing removal with rigging, or whether we need to bring in the crane.

Every job gets a ground crew and a climber or operator. Nobody works alone. We use proper rigging to control where pieces land. We protect your lawn with ground protection mats when moving heavy equipment, and we leave the site clean when we are done.

Hazard Assessment

Signs a Tree Should Be Removed

Homeowners ask us all the time: how do I know if my tree needs to come down? Here are the things we look for when we assess a tree.

Leaning Trees

A tree that has developed a lean — especially one that was not always leaning — is a warning sign. If the lean is toward your house, driveway, or a neighbor, it needs to be looked at. A sudden or progressive lean, especially combined with soil heaving at the base, means the root system is failing.

Dead Limbs and Dieback

Large dead limbs in the canopy are a hazard on their own. A tree with significant dieback in the upper crown is telling you something is wrong. It could be disease, root damage, or decline from drought stress. These limbs can fall without warning and the problem usually does not get better on its own.

Storm Damage

A tree that has been hit by lightning or lost major limbs in a storm is often structurally compromised even if it looks like it is still standing fine. Cracks, splits, and wound wood that forms over injuries can hide internal decay that develops over years.

Hollow Trunks

A hollow tree is not automatically a dead tree, but it is a weaker one. If more than 30-40% of the trunk is hollow, the tree does not have enough sound wood to hold itself up in a major storm. Fungal growth on the trunk is often a sign of internal decay.

Root Damage

Surface roots can buckle sidewalks, lift driveways, and damage underground pipes. Construction damage near the root zone — trenching, grading, compaction — can kill a tree slowly over several years. If roots are failing, the whole tree becomes unstable.

Diseased Trees

Emerald ash borer has killed millions of ash trees across South Jersey. Oak wilt, anthracnose, and other diseases can also push a tree past the point of recovery. A diseased tree that is declining near a structure is a removal candidate sooner rather than later.

When a Tree Comes Down on Your Property

Storm tree removal is different from a scheduled job. The tree is already down, already in a bad spot, and the situation is urgent. You might have a fallen tree on your roof, blocking your driveway, or tangled in power lines. You need someone who can get there quickly and work safely under pressure.

We respond to storm emergencies across South Jersey around the clock. When you call, we get the details, assess whether it is safe to work immediately or needs to wait for utility clearance, and dispatch the crew. We do not promise a specific arrival time we cannot keep — but we move as fast as we safely can.

Storm removal is more complex than a standard removal because the tree is often under tension, partially supported, or tangled in other trees. Cutting in the wrong spot can cause the tree to shift suddenly. Our crew knows how to read these situations and work them safely.

Equipment and Safety

The Right Equipment for Every Job

We invest in proper equipment because it makes the work safer and more efficient. A crew with the right tools can take down a tree in a tight backyard that would be impossible to do safely with just standard equipment.

Bucket Trucks

Our bucket truck allows us to safely and efficiently reach tall or difficult-to-access trees while minimizing impact to your property. By using the right equipment for the job, we improve safety, increase efficiency, and complete tree removals and trimming with precision.

Crane Services

For large, hazardous, or hard-to-reach trees, we use cranes to safely remove sections with precision and control. Crane-assisted removals reduce the risk of property damage, improve efficiency, and allow us to complete complex jobs safely, even in tight spaces.

Climbing Gear and Rigging

When equipment access is limited, our skilled climbers use professional climbing gear and rigging systems to safely remove trees piece by piece. This controlled approach protects nearby structures, landscaping, and property while ensuring every job is completed safely and efficiently.

Chippers and Stump Grinders

Our professional wood chippers quickly process branches and debris for efficient cleanup, while our stump grinders remove unsightly stumps below ground level. This equipment leaves your property clean, safe, and ready for landscaping or new growth.

Residential and Commercial

We Work for Homeowners, Businesses, and Property Managers

Most of our work is residential — homeowners in Cherry Hill, Marlton, Voorhees, Medford, Mount Laurel, and surrounding towns who need a tree taken down safely. But we also handle commercial properties, HOAs, and larger jobs that require coordinating around business hours or tenant schedules.

Commercial jobs often have more logistical complexity — access restrictions, parking lot clearance, coordination with property managers. We have done plenty of these and know how to work efficiently without disrupting operations.
